Welcome To Our Journal
In November, 2006, while we were in China to adopt our beautiful daughter, Katie, my sister, Karen, turned to us and asked when we'd be coming back to China to bring Katie's little sister home. Although Karen insists I replied that our family was complete (honestly, I don't remember my response), we had certainly discussed it.
Before we started the adoption process for Katie we had already discussed adopting a second time. Because of the space between our youngest son, Toby, and Katie, we knew we’d adopt another little girl into our family. We didn’t know it would be this soon, though!
In just a few short years our boys (ages 17, 15 & 13) will be out of the house in college and moving on with their lives (though we think they’ll stay close to home because they love their little sisters!). We realize that it will likely be easier for our girls to have each other growing up in a family of tall Dutch/German folks -- someone who looks more like them than the rest of this group does…we could rationalize this all day, but the simple truth is that we have an empty place in our family, and it will only be filled by a special little girl from China!
Though we hadn’t been home a year yet, we decided in the summer of 2007 to begin the process for Katie and the boys’ mei mei (little sister).
On September 21, 2007, we saw her face for the first time. It only took a heartbeat to know we were looking at our daughter. She was on a 'waiting child' list, because we had been waiting for her, and she had been waiting for us! We gathered our dossier together and sent it to China (LID 2/18/08) and then waited for the CCAA to finish their part of the process. On May 1, 2008, we received our LOA (Letter of Acceptance), final approval from China to adopt our sweet girl.
Due to stipulations from our agency, we cannot share any information about our sweet daughter until she is legally ours. We will be able to post all of our referral information as well as new pictures on adoption day, June 24, 2008 and at time you will see the face of the beautiful child we fell in love with.
To read our journal entries (which should be updated daily while we are in China), look over at the left side of the screen (under our family picture): whatever is written there is our most recent entry. Begin reading and when you get to the word "(more)...", click on it -- that will take you to the full entry and any pictures we have posted. "We witness a miracle
every time a child
enters into life.
But those who make their journey home
across time & miles,
growing within the hearts
of those who wait to love them,
are carried on the
wings of destiny and placed among us
by God's very own hands."
