She's Ours!
May 13, 2006
At 2:17 p.m. we welcomed Grace Lu into our family.
I cannot begin to explain the feelings we both are experiencing (which is why this post will probably ramble). There is a joy about this that is unspeakable. Our hearts are overflowing with love with an immediate bond to a little person we have never met previously. She's ours!
At about 1:30 we grabbed our cameras and paperwork and headed down the elevator to get Grace. We crowded into a conference room where there was an electric anticipation. It was great to see the different families with grins from ear to ear. I couldn't stand still but walked around the room taking video and pictures, smiling from ear to ear!
Tricia also sat with nervous anticipation on the verge of tears the whole time. We sat next to the Batershells who took our photos for us and us for them. We practiced the camera swap so as not to make any mistakes (mostly we were nervously killing time).
Then...there they were! BABIES!
Allison, our guide, began to call out families one at a time and then they would go up to get their little girl. Then I heard her say, "Get ready Bron Famiwie." My heart pounded and I jumped straight up in the air with pure joy. The camera handoff went well and we floated across the floor to get our girl.
It reminded me of the time when I got married to Tricia. It was like being in a little cocoon where we were the only people on earth and all of creation was spinning around us.
We took Grace to our chair over in the corner of the room and she began to cry with great might. About half of the other babies errupted into screams and the room was filled with the sounds of the future changing for the lives of twelve little girls forever.
We had our official photo taken and then were free to go to our room. We gathered our things and headed to the elevator. Gracie cried the entire way.
Back in our room we began to settle her down by blowing bubbles and humming to her. We started to get her ready for a bath and at about that time her eyes started drooping. Tricia laid her down on the bed and she was asleep within just a couple minutes.
Praise our loving God.
