The wait is over....
October 20, 2009

Yesterday I received a phone call from our adoption agency. The birth mother of Alex and Elvin has come back asking to take her two boys out of the orphanage and to live with her. The wait has been long. The boys have been there for two years. Their mother gave them up because she felt she could not take care of them and wished for a better life for them. Now, she feels she is in a better place to care for them and she does not wish for them to stay in an orphanage until the country decides to reopen adoptions. Frankly, I don’t blame her.

As you can imagine, we are disappointed. We hurt. But one of the reasons we wanted to adopt was because it reminds us of God’s Sovereignty. God is sovereign in this as He is with every other situation. Anouk described how we feel right now like one of those days when it is raining, but the sun comes out at the same time. There is a mixture of grief at the loss and relief at the closure, especially since the closure involves them being back with their mother.

We are thankful for the journey. Many people have partnered with us through prayer, encouragement and financial giving. We thank you. Your support to us throughout the last two and a half years has been so appreciated.

We are not sure what the Lord has for us or even why He led us down this road. But right now, our adoptive Father and our adoptive brother, Jesus are comforting us.

Blessings to all. Please pray for us...it is a struggle for us right now.

With much love and appreciation,

Jeremy & Anouk

My heart aches for both of you as tears stream down my face.
Jeremy and Anouk -
May the Lord Bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you.
May He turn His face toward you, and give you peace.
Phil. 4:13 "I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ Jesus gives me."
We love you so very much.

My heart is broken for you. Thank you so much for your transparency through this all, for the example you have been, and for the reminders of God's sovereignty!

I am grieving with you at the loss of your boys and rejoicing with them that they are no longer in an orphanage but with their mother. Although it doesn't all make sense, remember that God is in control and many of us are praying for your comfort in this time.

Sometimes words are hard to find. I hope it brings comfort in knowing that there are people like me, who care and will continue to bring you before the Throne of Grace where we find mercy and help in our time of need.

We know the feeling...we lost siblings the same way (after a couple of stalled domestic attempts).

The loss and grief are real. Hurting for you, but hopeful that "joy comes in the morning".

God's timelines are not fun (see Moses' 40-year stint in Egypt and then 40 more in Midian) but his plan will abound to your good and His glory!

Praying God will continue to be sweet to you and strong for you, and I'm rejoicing with you for how He has been both, from day 1 up through now.

I hope these lyrics are encouraging to you, as they have been to me in these last weeks:

We're praying for you all. I can only imagine how difficult this has been--and yet your example of faith in trust in our Father is astounding, appropriate, inspiring. It IS hard to even begin to guess why He's brought you down this road--but we know His inscrutable ways are perfect and good. We grieve with you over the loss and rejoice with you in the hope of His revelation.

I just checked your blog seconds ago and I am deeply sorry for your "loss" but was encouraged by your statement "God is sovereign in this as He is with every other situation." Thank you for the countless times of you being a huge example to me, even in times like these when you are hurting. May God bless your patience and desire to have children as you continue to look to Him for your direction.

Joy just told me about how the Lord has shut this door for you. My heart aches for you too. May the goodness and love of God displayed in the Gospel encourage you as you grieve.
