Still Waiting
June 22, 2005

I’ve been thinking about printing a t-shirt that says, “Still Waiting.”

At least a couple times a week people ask, “how’s the adoption going?” I want so badly to be able to tell them something exciting, but alas I can only tell them that, “we’re still waiting.” There’s a numbness that comes with waiting. Part of me puts the thought of what we’re doing out of my head a little so I don’t notice how slow the time seems to be going, and part of me wants to scour the web for anything and everything I can find on the subject.

It’s already been about eight months and the beginning of the journey seems like eons ago. But, we trust in God’s timing. Earlier in the process there was a hickup with something which was frustrating because it set us back about a month. There was this frustration, but also a peace because I know that God, in His sovereignty, has a specific child for us and He is working out the timing in His usual perfect way, so that we get His best. That thought is what makes the waiting bearable.

Have you ever decided to purchase a specific car and all of a sudden you notice that model everywhere you go (unless of course you happen to be able to afford some exotic foreign sports car). Well, it’s kind of like that now with Chinese children. It’s not that we see them everywhere, but we have noticed many in our community and other places we have gone. We have approached some of the parents and been able to visit with them a little about the process. It gives me the tingles when I see a little asian baby or child as it makes it all more tangible and real.

Sidebar: I’ve decided a mini-van is the modern-day equivalent of a quiver. Depending on if you have a bench seat in the middle or two captain chairs then either 5 kids or 6 kids is max. I suppose if you wanted to move up to a 15 passenger van you could but then you’re talking 13 children--WHEW!
