What A Great Neighborhood
Tullock's Woods and the Fourth of July
July 3, 2007

When we moved into our new home three months ago, we were told we would really really like the neighborhood. I was more concerned about the quality of the house and if all the windows opened. Tricia was much more interested in the community aspect.

After living in Tullock's Woods for these few months we occasionally find ourselves looking at a calendar to remind ourselves that it is 2007. Aside from the late model cars and current fashions, one would thing we were living in the fifties.

From the first days we lived in this neighborhood we had people stopping by to welcome us. When we're working or playing in the yard it is not uncommon to have people walking their dogs stop and chat. We have a neighborhood pool and clubhouse called the PowWow Club. It is there that we have participated in neighborhood activities, including a Swedish pancake breakfast, Easter egg hunt, and a big Fourth of July party that we had this past Saturday.

We have had the pleasure of meeting so many of our neighbors and are in the early stages of developing relationships with them. It really has been great! Morgan, Allie and Lindsay have made numerous friends and we have really enjoyed having some sweet little girls ride their bike to the house and play for the afternoon.

For the Independence Day party, we invited the MacAdams (some friends of ours from church) to spend some time with us. We didn't want them to miss out as we all enjoyed a frog race, bicycle parade, carnival games, swimming, adult trivia quiz fashioned after "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader (of which the Browns and MacAdams tied for 2nd!), we missed the fishing derby at the pond, and of course the grand finale fireworks.

As the sun began to set, about five fire trucks entered the PowWow Club's small parking lot and I started to wonder why we needed them for what I assumed would be some glorified roman candles. Boy...was I in for a surprise.

As the first streaking firework shot into the sky and exploded, I knew this was for real. What transpired in our little neighborhood over the next fifteen minutes was a fireworkds display that was better than any I have seen in the towns I have lived. It was thoroughly impressive and entertaining as the kids laid on their backs in the lush grass next to the pond and look straight up at them. And, even in our very wooded neighborhood the firemen didn't have to do any work.

Grace was not in the least bit scared, and neither were our friends' two little adopted girls (from Russia), Marina and Alena.

We are so thankful that God has allowed us to live here as we are really excited about meeting and establishing relationships with so many of our neighbors.
